Question and Answer
Modifications (car) My car is nearly bone stock, with the exception of some small add-ons. They are: Flowmaster American Thunder catback, a Densecharger with a K&N, and Moline 3 core aluminum radiator with a 180* thermostat. Not too much of a hp/tq gain from that list! Appearance wise I have added a set of LX tail lights, Pony wheels, tinted the windows, 99 GT seats-with the power driver’s track and a lot of polish and wax to keep it looking clean.
Planned future mods Gears are being ordered this week hopefully. In the next month or so I hope to order a Pro 5.0 shifter, and a set of drag radials. I want to install the off road H pipe I have as soon as I buy the headers. A 65mm throttle body and spacer are also in the works. In the next few years I want to save up for a supercharger, probably a Vortech. The car also needs paint in a few areas such as the hood and roof, so I have a lot of saving to do.
Original Goal for car My original goal for this car was to have a good-looking, semi-fast car that I can drive on the street and still have fun with. That’s where I am right now with it, so I am happy. A little more speed would be better, but I have a long road ahead of me.
Present Goal for Car Same as the original goal actually. I just want to enjoy the car and add a few parts here and there and learn a lot in the process.
Reason for buying car I bought this car after searching for a little over a year. I always liked the look and the sound of fox body Mustangs for as long as I can remember. A neighbor’s boyfriend had an 87 GT and that was the car that made me want one of my own. Also, I was determined to get a Mustang after I sold my 94 Thunderbird.
Other cars you considered buying: I looked at tons of Mustangs in my area but all of them were either too much of a headache to deal with, or just not what I was looking for. This car seemed to be perfect for what I wanted, so I went for it.
Car / Driver achievements I ran my car at the 2004 Spring Nats this past April for the first time ever. It was also my first time ever drag racing. I learned how to drive a 5 speed in this car, so I was definitely nervous about racing it in front of everyone. My best pass of the day was a 14.79@95 mph, which I was both surprised and impressed with. That’s the quickest it has gone with just the few listed modifications. For the next Nats, I hope to drop a few tenths off of that e/t.
Shout outs to people that helped you achieve these goals I’d like to thank a lot of people for helping me along the way with these goals. Thank you to my parents, for dealing with the car parts and tools in the garage, along with the noise of me coming home late at night, and for being supportive. Thanks go to my brother and my cousin Gus for working on it with me, taking 2 days to change my exhaust, and for looking at all the cars I was checking out before this one came along. These two guys are there at any time I need help, no matter what. I have to also thank my girlfriend, Leanna, for dealing with all the Mustang talk for who knows how long. She puts up with it, but she can’t say that she doesn’t like the car. As most of you know, she even comes to the track with me. I owe Gus (Gus-302) a lot for bringing me here; I would never have found SSOTN if it wasn’t for him. Without him, I would never have met all of the great people here who are always willing to lend a hand, or give their opinion on any question or concern I have with my car. Those people are what make this site great. I’ll try to list everyone, but if I forget some names, you know I appreciate all the help you’ve given me! Thank you to Adam Dugger, Mike Mohring, Bill Tumas, Rich Nagle, Greg Pintauro, Matt DeCillis, Mark (Not2Stock), Julian Moore, Don Loesch, Chris Purvis, Bob Lunner, Rich Smith, Eric Berman, Dan96Cobra, both Josh’s, Mike Johnson, Glenn Sullivan, Brian Alloway, Darin Croom, Mikey (Faleen) and anyone else I might have left off this list since I did it off the top of my head. Anyone who is a member on this site has definitely helped me come along way from not knowing the difference between an LX and GT Mustang!
Best time 14.79@95 mph
Do you have any regrets along the way? None at all. I’m glad I didn’t settle for the first car I saw, and that I took my time in looking for a clean car.
What was or is your favorite vehicle to this day and why? I have always had a thing for the original AM General Hummer. I’d love to have one of them one day. My new favorite of course is the Mustang, especially a 1970 Boss 302 in Grabber Blue.
What was your main reason was for becoming a part of the internets first and best mustang club? Gus invited me over to this site after showing me a few posts about his cousin’s car. I realized what a great site this place was so I joined and read the boards for a long time. I wanted to learn more about the Mustang and racing in general, and this site seemed like the best place to do it.
What do you do for enjoyment besides street racing? I like to cruise in the Mustang when it’s nice out. I also go hunting, paintballing, and I play baseball every once in a while.
Who is your biggest rival on the track, and why? As of right now, I’d have to say Bob Lunner (rel3rd). After selling Big Bird and buying the 89 convertible, I think he has the slowest car here, not me! I just hope I get to run him before he installs his new toy.
What upcoming events in 2004 do you plan on racing in if any? I plan on racing at the Fall Nats in a few months. That’s really the only event that is a must for me.
One last question, what do you enjoy the most about the Nationals? I’d like to say the party like everyone else, but I haven’t experience that part yet. So, I’m going with the racing. I like watching all the faster cars run all day and hanging out with everyone is fun too. I learned a few things about racing just from talking to everyone and watching how others raced. Talking to everyone in person is a lot better than using the computer.
We thank you for your time, and wish you the best in whatever you decide to do in the future.
Congrats to George Kousiaris for being the SSOTN Featured Member for September 2004.
