Original Goal for car to be in the 12's
Present Goal for Car to get into the lower 12's
Reason for buying car I own a restored 1966 Mustang GT Fastback which I raced at the first NATS. I became hooked on drag racing but did not want to damage my classic car. I started looking for a Fox body with low mileage and minimal mods. I bought my 93 about four years ago as a retirement gift to myself.
Other cars you considered buying: mid to late 1960's Ford muscle cars
Car / Driver achievements at the gamblers at the last NATS, I dialed in a 13.00 and ran a 13.004, the car in the other lane dialed in a 9.45 and ran a 9.47. He won the race, he beat me on the tree, I lost the race by 2/1000ths of a second.
Best time 12.9 @ 108mph , 1.7 60ft
12.7( Bill Tumas driving)
Do you have any regrets along the way? None, other than I wish I would have started drag racing before I turned 50 and that I could be a better driver.
What was or is your favorite vehicle to this day and why? Early Mustangs and Shelby Mustangs.
What do you do for enjoyment besides Mustangs? I have a 2003 Harley Davidson, I collect and operate toy trains and my wife and I travel whenever we can.
Who is your biggest rival on the track, and why? Dan Gollan from Baltimore, always close racing, cars are very evenly matched. Dan is up on me wins vs losses.
What upcoming events in 2004 do you plan on racing in if any? Fall NATS and other test& tunes, I have raced my 1966 at a nostalgia drag racing series event and will do it again.
Shout outs? Special thanks to Rich Nagle for introducing me to the SSOTN. This has allowed me to meet and become friends with Bill Tumas, Mike Mohring, Brian Alloway, Glenn Sullivan, Brian Kirk, Eric Berman and many many others. All who have been very helpful to me.
One last question, What is your favorite part of SSOTN, and why? The SSOTN saying on the tee-shirts 'Come for the party… Stay for the race' says it all for me. I enjoy the camaraderie and family atmosphere. The SSOTN organization is the best club I have ever belonged to: there are no meetings, no dues, just good times either on the message boards or in person at the NATS and other events.
We thank you for your time, and wish you the best in the future.
Congrats to Bob Conlan for being the SSOTN Featured Member for July 2004.
